Artist Biography
I’m O’Hara Kamis, a self taught Canadian artist and the creator behind Stay Groovy Creations. My work blends psychedelic surrealism, feminine energy, and vibrant color, and I love building pieces that feel dreamy, emotional, and alive. I paint primarily in acrylic and oil, and I often add real gold leaf, especially on large scale canvases and multi panel work. While my signature style leans toward expressive surreal portraits, I also create realistic dog portraits and custom commissions, and I genuinely love collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life.
My art is influenced by my Lebanese heritage, my lifelong love of color, and my background in science. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UVic and a Master’s in Sustainable Forest Management from UBC, and that grounding in sustainability and the natural world often finds its way into my nature inspired pieces.
Stay Groovy Creations came from my younger years, when friends called me "O Groovy" because of my bubbly and fun-loving nature, and that energy is still at the heart of everything I make. I want my work to feel like a hit of color and mood, something that shifts a space and pulls you into its world.
Community matters to me just as much as the work itself. I really care about supporting other artists and helping them feel less alone in the process, and I try to go above and beyond wherever I can. I uplift people by sharing what I have learned, offering recommendations, and having honest, positive conversations that bring motivation and momentum. I love answering questions, shared resources, and even offered free help wherever I can! I do not believe in gatekeeping. If I know something that could make someone’s path easier, I want to share it.
My artist journey has not been a straight line. I have loved art for as long as I can remember, but I was not naturally talented at the beginning. I have always been deeply passionate about creativity, so I stayed consistent and kept working at it. I practiced, made mistakes, tried again, and slowly built my skills over time. Over many years, I have done extensive research and built a strong foundation of knowledge, and I know how hard that can be to access as a self taught artist without clear guidance. I want people to know that growth is real, and that showing up for your craft can change everything.
xoxo Stay Groovy!
